Merry Christmas from ChaChing – Enjoy!!
Has anybody really had any success with this? We originally tried to do this with a programmer located in Asia and didn’t have much luck. I think the phrase “You get what you pay for” is very true when it comes to software development.
Being a start up the low cost of outsourcing was an enticing factor. However what we got back was really below par in our view.
We had agreed to pay for the development in three stages. After a stage was completed we paid for the work. Stage one was a website design and some initial features to be completed we even went as far as to include a custom design for the site layout, just to give an idea of what we were thinking.
A few weeks go by past the deadline and we get back the same design we handed over, except with a logo it looked like had been designed by somebody who was using a computer for the first time. There were some features added but none of them were the features requested and on top of that it seemed like they were just part of some standardised modules the programmer had created for websites he worked on, a contact us page etc.
So all he had done was wrap our rough design layout around some stock inhouse code and added a horrific logo.
We paid him for the phase one, and decided add in a small extra amount to the payment since we were terminating the agreement at that point.
The way we looked at it was like this: He was clearly not up to it, but we took him on and we made that mistake, and he had actually done what he believed to be work, at least from a subjective stand point.
We just felt that it was fair so we explained what the extra amount was for. Now we were dropping this guy for essentially being unable to carry out the work he was contracted to do, but he came back and said that the extra amount was not enough and that he wanted more!!
You have to admire somebody who gets dropped for being unable to do a task and wants more money for it!
Anyhow, here is a blog post that I think really sums up the whole outsourcing thing very well and is written by an Indian interestingly enough – Why Outsourcing Sucks
Ok that heading is a complete and utter fabrication, but since continuously using the phrase ChaChing was worth a blog posting yesterday, then it must be worth one today, here is a rap song called ChaChing by Killa Cam & Hell Rell.
I’m not saying I like the song, but I do like the chorus.. sorta.. have a look yourself and see what you think….
Found this on youtube, see if you recognise the actor…
And yes, the only reason this was added is because it says the phrase ChaChing a load of times!
